Come inside. Take a tour of GHOne TV’s newly acquired Outside Broadcast facility.
The facility was jointly delivered by Axel Technology, the Ghana-based Bahamus Electronic Services Broadcast and world renowned systems integrator ARET Video and Audio Engineering, and is the first – of this magnitude – for any local television station.
Technical details
The high performance equipment boasts 16 ULTRA HD Cameras with a Virtual Production Studio and six flexible operating areas that support Ultra HD 4K production. The van was built around 12G-SDI broadcast infrastructure products from Blackmagic Design.
The trailer has a triple expansion that allows plenty of space for operation and is designed for large productions. ARET exploited the space created by the left side expansion, designing the virtual production studio with a chroma key embedded inside the OB Van using pan-title-zoom ( PTZ) cameras and a dedicated, fully configurable, light studio set. It also stocks a large 3D shaped monitor wall behind the fully adjustable production console, a dedicated audio room with insulation treatment and a noise isolated equipment room.
The 14m-long truck has the capacity for a twenty-strong team, and includes an expandable production gallery, as well as a stand alone television studio workflow, which means the vehicle can be used comfortably for longer periods, allowing multiple productions to take place without the space becoming too cramped. For example, the truck can have a fully fledged television studio up and running for several days, rather than on a short-term, event-only basis.
The virtual studio is equipped with an ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio 4K, and the corresponding 2 M/E broadcast panel.
Signal routing onboard is managed via a Smart Videohub 40×40 from Blackmagic Design. Housed in the OB’s technical control room, it sits alongside a rack of HyperDeck Studio Pro broadcast decks, used for both recording and backup purposes, as Teranex Express standards converters, which allow production GH One to standardize any incoming video sources from external contributors.
