Ghanaian media personality Yaw Adusei Poku faced severe consequences for expressing his views on the LGBTQ+ bill pending in parliament.
He advocated for individual freedom of association on both radio and on the streets of Kumasi , arguing that LGBTQ+ rights should not be mandatory.
However, on March 15, 2024, Yaw was brutally attacked in a Kumasi suburb by a group disagreeing with his stance.
Following the assault, Yaw received medical attention at a nearby hospital after filing a police report with the officers who responded to the incident. This disturbing event highlights the growing tensions and intolerance surrounding the LGBTQ+ debate in Ghana.
Due to the above incident Yaw has been off both the media and social networks for few months minding his own personal life.
