Renowned Ghanaian sports journalist Gary Al-Smith has been appointed as the Regional Content Lead for Sporty Group in Ghana.

Known for his expertise in African sports, Al-Smith’s new role underscores the Sporty Group’s commitment to enhancing its influence in key African markets.

”‘This is an incredible opportunity to build something truly unique in Ghana and across Africa. Sporty’s vision for sports media resonates deeply with my passion for storytelling and innovation. I am eager to bring my expertise to this exciting project and to contribute to shaping the future of sports content on the continent,” Al-Smith stated.

He joins Sporty Group after a nine-year tenure with the Multimedia Group Limited, where he was the Head of Sports across radio, television, and digital platforms. During this period, he played a pivotal role in acquiring broadcast rights for major sporting events.

His work has been showcased on prominent platforms including CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, Sky Sports, The New York Times, The Athletic, and SuperSport, solidifying his reputation as a thought leader in African sports storytelling.

In addition to his media achievements, Al-Smith has collaborated with prestigious organisations such as FIFA, UNICEF, and LaLiga, bringing local perspectives to global sports assignments.

Al-Smith’s association with Sporty Group is not entirely new. Over recent months, he has become a familiar presence on SportyTV, Africa’s premier free-to-air sports channel, where he regularly features on key programmes such as *Sporty Live* and *SportyShow*, providing expert analysis and engaging with audiences across the continent.

In his new role, Al-Smith is set to lead an innovative project in Ghana, with his leadership anticipated to enhance Sporty Group’s content strategy and strengthen engagement with Ghanaian audiences.

Sporty Group’s decision to onboard Gary aligns with its vision to invest in local talent and spearhead pioneering initiatives in the African sports industry.
